A little time away

Make the journey part of the escape.

A mountain weekend works best when you choose a few places and give them room. This two-day escape follows the western approach from Sydney to Leura and Katoomba, with an optional Blackheath morning. It is a compact itinerary for a first EV getaway, but the climb, cold weather and side trips still belong in your range plan.

Your suggested itinerary

2 days. Room to enjoy it.

Day 1

Climb slowly into the weekend

Use Glenbrook for an early break before continuing through the mountain villages. Plan lunch in Leura and leave the afternoon for Echo Point and the Three Sisters at Katoomba. Choose a walk from the current park information that suits your group rather than committing to a long descent late in the day. Stay in Leura or Katoomba so dinner and the next morning’s starting point remain close together.

  • Glenbrook village
  • Leura
  • Echo Point, Katoomba

Finish the day: Leura or Katoomba

Day 2

A lookout morning before heading home

If conditions and current access allow, spend the morning around Blackheath and Govetts Leap, then return towards Sydney along the main western approach. In poor visibility, swap the lookout for village cafés or galleries instead of adding more kilometres in search of a view. This trip does not depend on continuing through Mount Victoria to Lithgow or visiting Jenolan Caves; check road and park alerts before adding either extension.

  • Blackheath
  • Govetts Leap, subject to access
  • Sydney

Finish the day: Home in Sydney

Before you go

A few checks. A better trip.

  • Check NSW National Parks alerts before choosing walks and lookouts.
  • Bring warm layers and allow for reduced visibility; shorten the itinerary if weather changes.
  • Enter every detour in vehicle navigation. Do not assume downhill regeneration will recover all the energy used climbing.

Useful answers

Your trip questions, answered.

Can I do the Blue Mountains without an overnight stop?

Yes, you can shorten this to Leura and Echo Point with a return to Sydney the same day. The two-day version gives more room for weather, a walk and an unhurried breakfast.

Does this itinerary go through Lithgow?

No. The core itinerary uses Leura, Katoomba and an optional Blackheath visit, returning towards Sydney. Check current road closures before extending west or adding a different return route.

Will my EV need to charge in Katoomba?

That depends on your starting point, starting charge, vehicle and detours. Plan using the exact round trip and preserve a backup if your accommodation charger is unavailable.
