Queensland EV road-trip guide
Queensland is not one EV road trip. A Brisbane-to-Noosa beach weekend, a Gold Coast hinterland escape and a Tropical North Queensland drive have very different distances, weather patterns and charger redundancy. Plan the route around where you actually want to stop — beaches, rainforest, food and accommodation — then make charging fit those stops.
Best first routes
For a first Queensland EV holiday, Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast is a practical place to start because the journey can be built around normal family stops rather than one critical charging location. Noosa combines beaches, national-park walking and destination charging, while the Gold Coast can be paired with a rainforest stay in the hinterland.
Treat every charger shown in an app as a planning input, not a guarantee. Recheck availability before each major leg and identify a second compatible charger if the next section of the trip has limited alternatives.
Sunshine Coast
A useful Noosa itinerary lets the car charge while the family is already at the resort, beach, shops or on a walk. Noosa Main Beach and Noosa National Park create a natural long-dwell window, so destination charging can be more useful than inserting an extra high-speed stop into the day.
RACV Noosa Resort confirms Chargefox Type 2 chargers are available to guests for a fee. That makes an overnight stay useful for recovering range before the return to Brisbane or a longer northbound leg, subject to current availability and access arrangements.
Gold Coast hinterland
A hinterland trip is different from motorway cruising. Elevation, winding roads and detours can change energy use, while mobile coverage may be less consistent. Arrive at the final climb with a comfortable buffer instead of planning to reach a remote destination at a critically low state of charge.
O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat confirms a Tesla charging station is available and asks guests to reserve a charging time with reception. It is a good example of why destination chargers should be confirmed before arrival rather than assumed from a map pin.
Seasonal planning
Hot weather increases climate-control use and can change real-world range, while school holidays can increase demand at popular coastal charging sites. Build extra time into summer travel and avoid a plan that depends on arriving at one busy charger with minimal remaining range.
Far North Queensland adds a separate wet-season planning problem: heavy rain, flooding and road closures can affect routes even when charging infrastructure is available. Check current road and weather conditions before travel and be prepared to change the itinerary rather than treating the original charging plan as fixed.
Go further north
Tourism and Events Queensland describes the Tropical North Queensland Electric Vehicle Drive as a roughly 500 km route linking Mena Creek and the Atherton Tablelands with Cairns and the Daintree area. Charging is positioned at visitor attractions including Paronella Park, Historic Village Herberton, Coffee Works, Skyrail, Hartley's Crocodile Adventures and Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre.

Interstate
For Brisbane drivers heading south, the Queensland border is not a meaningful break in the EV journey. Plan Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Tweed, Byron Bay and the Northern Rivers as one corridor and choose accommodation charging or a longer food stop to reduce the number of dedicated charging stops.
