NSW public charging

$5m Round 3 is open.

NSW is co-funding public EV charging in priority areas. This is a CPO-led public infrastructure opportunity—not a private strata EV charging rebate.

Reviewed 5 October 2026. NSW says applications close 21 December 2026.

Who can apply

The applicant must be an eligible charge point operator.

NSW defines CPOs for this round as companies that own and/or operate EV chargers and meet the entity requirements. EVITAL should approach this as a partnership opportunity with an eligible CPO rather than claim automatic eligibility.

Potential EVITAL value can sit around site discovery, demand generation, project coordination and host/CPO introductions, subject to clear contracts and grant rules.

Site hosts are a separate role.

NSW invites businesses, property owners and councils to express interest in hosting public chargers. A site host is not automatically the grant applicant.

Round 3 caps

Funding is capped by charger type.

ChargerMaximum NSW contribution per port
AC 7 kW$3,000 ex GST
AC 22 kW$6,000 ex GST
DC 24 kW+$30,000 ex GST

The NSW contribution must also be no more than 80% of eligible installation and equipment costs per requested port.

EVITAL opportunity

Bring EVITAL the site. We’ll coordinate the pathway.

EVITAL can assess the opportunity, identify whether the site fits the public-charging pathway and coordinate suitable CPO and delivery relationships. The eligible CPO remains the grant applicant where required.

Direct answers

NSW Round 3 FAQs.

How much funding is available in NSW Round 3?

Round 3 provides $5 million in co-funding. Eligible applicants can request between $100,000 and $1 million excluding GST, subject to the program rules and per-port caps.

Can EVITAL apply directly?

Not under the current project-manager model unless EVITAL separately meets the program definition and eligibility requirements for a charge point operator. The program is open to eligible CPOs that own and/or operate EV chargers.

Can a strata building use this as its private charging grant?

No. This is a public charging program for eligible CPO-led projects. It is not replacement funding for the closed NSW EV Ready Buildings strata program.

What sites can be included?

The program covers eligible public kerbside, council carpark and commercial carpark installations within the 37 priority local government areas, subject to the full guidelines and site requirements.
