A little time away

Make the journey part of the escape.

Make the drive south the opening chapter of the holiday. This suggested four-day trip gives Busselton an overnight stop, follows the coast through Yallingup, then spends two nights around Margaret River. It leaves a full day for a cave, a coastal walk or a booked food experience without making every outing another long transfer.

Your suggested itinerary

4 days. Room to enjoy it.

Day 1

Ease south to Busselton

Leave Perth with the route and charging options checked, using a Bunbury-area break if it suits your car and the group. Continue to Busselton for the foreshore and a first night close to town. Make a jetty visit a planned activity rather than squeezing it between two long driving legs. Confirm your overnight charging arrangements and the next day’s route before settling in.

  • Bunbury-area break
  • Busselton foreshore
  • Busselton town

Finish the day: Busselton

Day 2

Follow the coast through Yallingup

Head towards Dunsborough and Yallingup, choosing one or two coastal stops rather than every signed turn-off. The wider Cape Naturaliste area offers a worthwhile detour when time and conditions suit. Continue to Margaret River and settle into a base for two nights. Enter detours into navigation before setting your departure charge; a short-looking coastal day can grow quickly when you add lookouts and beaches.

  • Dunsborough
  • Yallingup coast
  • Margaret River

Finish the day: Margaret River or nearby

Day 3

Stay local for a full day

Choose the experience you most want: a booked cave visit, time around the coast near Prevelly, or local food and produce. Keep the rest of the day loose enough to enjoy it. If wineries are part of the plan, arrange a non-driving option for tastings. A confirmed charge while parked near your base can be more convenient than interrupting the day solely to find another station.

  • A booked cave or local experience
  • Prevelly coast
  • Margaret River town

Finish the day: Same Margaret River base

Day 4

Return to Perth with a planned break

Recheck the car’s estimate for the full return to Perth before checkout. Choose a charging and meal stop on the main corridor, then let the return day stay simple. This is the time to use your saved backup if the preferred station is busy, not to improvise from a critically low battery. Add a night if you want to continue towards Augusta rather than fitting it into the departure morning.

  • Margaret River breakfast
  • A main-corridor charging break
  • Perth

Finish the day: Home in Perth

Before you go

A few checks. A better trip.

  • Choose the Margaret River base around your preferred activities, then confirm charging separately.
  • Check road and park conditions before adding coastal or forest detours.
  • Use a non-drinking driver or local tour for winery tastings.

Useful answers

Your trip questions, answered.

Can I do Perth to Margaret River in a weekend?

Yes, but a direct two-night stay is more practical than trying to fit every stop into two days. Four days gives Busselton its own night and one full day around Margaret River.

Are the old Busselton and Dunsborough foreshore chargers reliable planning stops?

Do not use old listings as your plan. The City of Busselton has published changes and removals affecting these foreshore units. Check a current operator map for an alternative.

Can non-Tesla EVs use the Margaret River Supercharger?

Tesla lists the Town View Terrace site as open to other compatible CCS vehicles. Verify eligibility for your exact model, payment setup and current access in Tesla’s app before relying on it.
