Read the denominator as carefully as the headline.

The 24.2% figure refers to new vehicles sold during one month. It does not describe all vehicles on Australian roads, the used-car market or the full year. Battery-electric vehicles are also distinct from plug-in hybrids and conventional hybrids.

The EVC's own September release reports the same 26,287 BEVs with a 24.9% new-car share. This page consistently uses the carsales combined new-vehicle series and its 24.2% share; the percentages should not be mixed as though their market definitions are identical. Read the EVC release.

EVITAL's view: the next decision is about ownership.

Our interpretation is that useful EV information must extend beyond the purchase shortlist. We would start with five questions: where will the car charge, which journeys must it handle, what does the complete ownership budget include, what cover needs investigating, and which accessories genuinely fit the vehicle?

A popular model is a starting point for research, not proof that it suits a particular driver. Compare the exact Australian variant and the same ownership period. Keep purchase price, charging, servicing, insurance, finance costs and any residual or resale assumption visible rather than reducing the decision to a weekly payment.

Turn the market story into a practical shortlist.

These research paths are editorial selections, not personalised recommendations or a claim that any variant qualifies for tax concessions.
