Used EV battery health checklist

Battery condition matters, but a single dashboard number is not enough. Use this checklist to build a stronger evidence pack around the individual vehicle before you commit.

Start with evidence

Ask for a recent State of Health report.

Australian Government guidance specifically recommends asking the seller or dealership for a battery health report when preparing to buy an EV. Some vehicles expose battery information through onboard systems or apps, while an independent check may provide additional evidence.

Do not stop at the battery

A good battery result does not make the whole vehicle good.

Service history, accident and flood history, charging behaviour, recalls, tyres, brakes, suspension and other vehicle systems still matter. Use an appropriately qualified EV-capable technician for inspection and do not attempt to inspect high-voltage components yourself.
