Queensland Christmas lights 2026: Brisbane, Redlands and Gold Coast EV outings

Choose one corner of South East Queensland for the evening. A bayside celebration, a city-river view or a coastal twilight event each makes a different local outing.

Choose an area close to home

Places, dates and what is confirmed.

These are separate outing choices. Add your own start and return points in navigation; they are not one measured driving loop.

Three local outings, not one long loop

If you live near Cleveland, make the Raby Bay celebration the outing. For a Gold Coast evening, stay around Southport and Biggera Waters. For Brisbane, choose one river viewpoint and check the nightly calendar. Travelling between all three areas changes the distance substantially.

Each navigation link opens a destination. Add your home as the start and return point and include any charging detour. A 30 km example uses 5.4 kWh, or 9% of a 60 kWh usable battery, at an assumed 18 kWh/100 km. It is not a measured route for all of South East Queensland.

Keep neighbourhood lists current

A competition entry does not prove that a home is lit every night or that a visitor map is final. For Ipswich, use the organiser’s current map once published. The guide does not infer a 2026 schedule from a 2025 recap or a January 2026 report.

Respect residents, park legally and check that a home has opted into public visitor information before adding it to a route. Short walking clusters can be more enjoyable than adding several distant suburbs.

Plan for a warm, slow evening

The car can consume energy while parked if climate control is running. Use the calculator’s extra-energy field for that allowance; the displayed distance calculation alone does not cover every accessory load.

Charge before the event if necessary, save an alternative, and check the operator’s app again before approaching the charger. Queensland TMR’s map helps identify other public locations, but a map pin does not guarantee an available bay.

Charge before the busy part

Published charging stops to check.

These are identified locations, not live availability. Verify the exact connector, opening hours, eligibility, parking conditions and current fee in the operator’s app.

Your car. Your distance.

How much charge could the drive use?

The starting values are an example, not a measured route or a recommendation for departure charge. Change them to match your complete journey.

Include home, stops, charger detours and return.
Use usable capacity, not the gross pack figure.
Use recent real-world driving for similar conditions.
For example, additional air-conditioning while waiting.

Estimated battery use

9.0%

5.4 kWh for the entered journey

Percentage points of a full usable battery. Keep your arrival reserve separate.

Calculation and assumptions

Energy (kWh) = distance × consumption ÷ 100 + extra energy. Battery use (%) = energy ÷ usable battery capacity × 100.

Defaults: 60 kWh usable battery, 18 kWh/100 km and no extra stationary allowance. These are illustrative inputs, not specifications for a named EV. The estimate is battery energy consumed, not electricity purchased from a charger; charging losses are not included. Weather, hills, traffic, towing, load and battery condition can change the result. Use your vehicle’s route planner and keep an appropriate reserve.

Useful answers

Before you set off.

Are there confirmed Queensland Christmas lights events for 2026?

Redland City Council confirms its tree-lighting celebration for 27–28 November. Gold Coast lists Broadwater Christmas Twilight on 12 December. The latter is a festive market event, not a residential lights drive.

Where can I charge near Cleveland or Southport?

Cleveland Central lists Evie chargers accessed via Wynyard Street. Evie lists Harbour Town in Biggera Waters as a Gold Coast option. Verify compatibility, live operation, fees and access in the operator app.

Does Queensland mean the whole state here?

This edition covers South East Queensland: Brisbane, Redlands, Ipswich and the Gold Coast. It does not present a verified statewide lights trail or a Tropical North Queensland Christmas schedule.

Evidence behind the guide

Sources checked 5 November 2026.

Event dates come from organisers or councils where available. Charger descriptions use operator or official destination information. Older inventories and pending events are identified in the guide; a review date does not turn an older source into a live check.
