EV insurance and choice of repairer

Repairer choice, manufacturer repair capability and insurer approval are related questions. They are not interchangeable promises.

Read the repairer provision

Check whether the policy provides a choice of repairer, an optional benefit or an insurer-selected network. Ask what approval is needed before repairs begin and how competing estimates are handled.

Confirm EV capability

Ask whether the proposed facility can follow the vehicle’s high-voltage isolation, battery assessment and body-repair procedures. Where manufacturer authorisation is relevant, confirm it directly. A familiar workshop name alone does not establish capability for every EV repair.

Clarify the full repair journey

Ask about parts, calibration, transport to specialist facilities and replacement-vehicle limits. Keep approvals and repair documentation. If a dispute arises, use the insurer’s complaints process and check the available external dispute-resolution pathway.
